Opportunity Doesn't Always Knock. Sometimes It Calls ...
... The strap-line for O'Reilly's Emerging Telephony Conference (ETel) to be held in San Francisco, Burlingame, California, February 27 to March 1, 2007. 'ETel compares and contrasts web telephony technology, business, and culture, articulating how they conspire and inform consumers, creators, and purveyors. ETel gets rid of the hype and "conventional wisdom" of the past, presenting a whole new way of looking at the industry for newcomers and established players alike.' Tim Panton, Technical Director of Westhawk Ltd, an independent technology consultancy, will be presenting Corraleta™ at this year's event. Corraleta is the latest piece of innovative software development by the team at Westhawk, an applet phone, which enables any browser to place a call to any phone, anywhere in the world. Tim Panton has been a software developer for some 25 years, working on a diverse range of projects stretching from chemical plant simulation to tourism web sites. He is also a contributor to open source projects, especially GJTAPI, a framework for implementing JTAPI (The Java Telephony API) and Westhawk's Java SNMP stack. Join Tim on Wednesday the 28th of February at 5:15pm to hear how the already existing rich vein of web applications can benefit from the addition of our most natural form of communication, person-to-person speech. Seamlessly integrating into "Web 2.0" pages, the Corraleta product range gives the casual web browser the ability to speak to a community or individual by creating a VoIP call in seconds. The nature of the call is up to the owner of the website, from "classic VoIP", through e-commerce sites, to anonymous online dating, or even niche applications like "hands-free" knitting forums. Tim Panton will demonstrate and illustrate some uses of Corraleta and describe how IAX (Asterisk's native VoIP protocol) makes it all possible. He will also challenge you, the audience, to come up with new and innovative uses of this technology in your own areas. |
